Lacetti engine knocking sound
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Chevrolet Lacetti with a gasoline engine developed a knocking sound, reduced performance, jerking during acceleration, and smoke emission. The issue was suspected to be due to deposits in the combustion chamber causing pre-ignition. A similar case suggested using higher octane fuel as a temporary fix, but ultimately, the solution involved cleaning the combustion chamber to remove carbon buildup, which resolved the problem.

Yeah, it does seem worse when it's warmed up. I've been using regular unleaded, maybe I should try premium. How long did the higher octane fuel help before you needed to do something more?

The higher octane helped for maybe a month or so, but the knocking came back. Eventually, I had to take it to a workshop. They told me it was carbon buildup in the combustion chamber causing detonation. They cleaned it out and it fixed the problem.

Thanks for the info! I took it to my mechanic, and you were spot on. Carbon buildup was the culprit. They cleaned the combustion chamber, and it cost me 425€. Runs like new now!

I had a similar issue with my Chevrolet Lacetti. Does it seem to be worse when the engine is hot? Try using a higher octane fuel. It helped me for a while. Have you checked your spark plugs recently?
