Lacetti Fuel Composition Error

Hi, I've got a 2008 Chevrolet Lacetti with a gasoline engine that's giving me fits. Recently, the check engine light lit up. The engine sometimes stalls when idling, unnerving at stop lights. A scanner throws a code related to incorrect fuel composition. The car only has 43611 km. I've checked the fuel cap and visually inspected the fuel lines, but everything seems to be in order. Any ideas before I start tearing into the fuel system?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Chevrolet Lacetti is experiencing issues with the check engine light and stalling when idling, with a diagnostic code indicating incorrect fuel composition. The problem began after refueling, suggesting possible contaminated gasoline or a faulty sensor related to fuel composition analysis. A similar issue was resolved by addressing a defective cable or plug connection linked to the sensor, and it is recommended to take the car to a workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Hey there, I had a similar headache with my Chevrolet Lacetti not too long ago. My issue also involved the engine light and rough idling. The error code I retrieved pointed towards a fuel mixture problem as well. I remember I had recently refueled the car. Did you just fill up the tank right before the symptoms appeared?

That's interesting! Now that you mention it, yes, I did fill up the tank the day before the problems started. I usually go to the same gas station, so I didn't think much of it. Could it be possible the gasoline is contaminated or something? Or a bad fuel filter? What did you eventually do to fix it?

Contaminated gasoline could indeed be the culprit. In my case, the issue was a defective cable or plug connection linked to a sensor responsible for fuel composition analysis. The bad fuel can damage this component, so you must take your car to the workshop for diagnosis. Although the error was similar than yours, it might be something different. I took it to a trusted workshop, they charged me 95€ for the repair. It was sorted in a few hours.

Thanks a lot for the insight! Knowing that it was a similar sensor issue for you gives me a good starting point. I'll take your advice and bring it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. Hopefully, it won't break the bank. I appreciate you sharing your experience!
