Laguna AC Failure

My 2002 Renault Laguna diesel's AC is gone. No cold air, error light on, and the system won't kick in. The computer says it's the refrigerant compressor. Anyone seen this before? Mileage is at 81328 km.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar AC issue with my Laguna. Compressor failure, same symptoms. Have you checked the AC control unit? That was the culprit for me; like a bad fuse blowing the whole system.

The control unit, eh? Interesting. How did you figure that out? And what kind of cost am I potentially looking at?

A mechanic ran diagnostics and pointed to the control unit being faulty. It's a common problem, apparently. Ended up costing me around 980€ to get it sorted. Best to get it checked properly though; could be something else, but sounds very similar to my issue. Consider a good workshop!
