Laguna Boost Pressure Problem

I'm having trouble with the boost pressure on my 2001 Renault Laguna, gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, power is down, engine response is poor, it sometimes stalls at idle, fuel consumption is up, there's a whistling noise, and a loud hissing when I accelerate. The car has 173836 km. Could this be a bad pressure sensor, or maybe something with the intercooler?

Sounds frustrating! A whistling and hissing on acceleration definitely points to a boost leak somewhere. Have you checked the hoses going to and from the turbocharger? Maybe one of them has a split or has come loose. Is there something stuck inside?

I've visually inspected the hoses and connections, but I haven't found any obvious cracks or disconnections. Could a faulty wastegate valve cause these symptoms, even if the hoses appear to be intact? I'm also concerned about potential turbo lag.

A faulty wastegate absolutely could cause those issues, especially the whistling and power loss. If it's stuck open, you won't build boost properly. Since you've checked the easy stuff, and you are still experiencing turbo lag, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis.

I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be a defect in the wastegate valve, as you suspected. The total repair cost came to 860€.
