Laguna climate control failure

Hello, I'm having trouble with my 2011 Renault Laguna (gasoline engine). The climate control panel isn't working at all! I've got an error stored in the memory, the heating barely works, and the air conditioning refuses to switch on. It's like the whole system is dead. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The 2011 Renault Laguna's climate control system was non-functional, with heating issues and an unresponsive air conditioning system. The problem was likely due to electrical issues, such as faulty fuses or corroded connectors, particularly around the temperature sensor. The suggested solution was to inspect these components, and ultimately, a mechanic identified and resolved the issue by cleaning a corroded connector and replacing a damaged wire.

Sounds frustrating! It's often like chasing a ghost when the climate control goes haywire. Before diving deep, have you checked the basics like fuses related to the HVAC system? Also, a common culprit in Renaults is dodgy electrical connectors, especially around the temperature sensor. They can corrode or come loose, causing all sorts of weirdness. Think of it like a loose wire on a Christmas tree – one bad connection and the whole thing goes dark. Have you had a look at those?

Thanks for the advice! Where exactly is that temperature sensor located, and how would I go about checking the electrical connectors? I'm not super experienced with car electrics, so any pointers would be great. And which fuses should I check?

Okay, so locating the temperature sensor can be a bit of a treasure hunt depending on your Laguna's specific trim. It's often somewhere near the air intake, either under the dash or near the blower motor. Honestly, without the right tools and experience, poking around with electrical connectors can sometimes make things worse. Given your symptoms and the error code, it really does sound like a defective cable or plug connection as predicted. It would be a good idea to get it checked by a workshop. They can properly diagnose and fix those pesky electrical gremlins.

Thanks so much for your help! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on – it was a corroded connector. They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of damaged wire. Total cost was 95€, which is a lot better than replacing the whole climate control unit!
