Laguna diesel fuel rail pressure sensor fault

I'm experiencing difficulties with my 2006 Renault Laguna diesel. The engine check light is on, and the engine occasionally stalls when idling. Also, I have noticed a reduction in engine power. A scan indicates a faulty signal from the fuel rail pressure sensor. The car has 194141 km on the clock. Could a defective pressure sensor be the likely cause?

Those symptoms do indeed point towards the fuel rail pressure sensor. I had similar issues with a previous car – a faulty sensor can cause all sorts of erratic engine behavior. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor itself? Sometimes a loose or corroded connection can trigger the same error. You might also want to verify the fuel filter is not clogged before replacing the sensor.

Thanks. I have inspected the wiring and connections, and they appear to be in good condition. The fuel filter was replaced recently as part of routine maintenance. Is there a way to definitively confirm that the sensor is the issue before I proceed with replacing it?

If the wiring and fuel filter are fine, it strongly suggests a faulty sensor. Unfortunately, without more specialized diagnostic equipment, it's difficult to be 100% certain. Given the symptoms and error code, replacing the sensor is a reasonable next step. However, if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, taking it to a workshop for a diagnosis would be wise. I had to do that once. It cost me 240€, all included.

Thanks. Based on your recommendation, I took the vehicle to a workshop. Following their inspection, they confirmed the rail pressure sensor was defective. After replacing the sensor the issues are resolved.
