Laguna immobilizer problem

Thanks! I've replaced the key fob battery, and the car battery seems healthy. I've even tried the spare key with the same result. Could you elaborate on what resolved your issue? Was it related to the key signal?

You've covered the basics. In my case, it was a glitch in the immobilizer system itself. It needed a reset at the workshop. The diagnostic tool showed the key wasn't properly recognized, even though it was. Best bet is to take it to someone with Renault diagnostic tools; they can reprogram the key or identify if there is a deeper problem. It's like having a lock that only a specialized key can open, and they have the master key.

Thank you; that's helpful. A local garage reprogrammed the key for 45€. Runs like a charm again. Sounds exactly like your issue, and your help gave me the confidence to pursue it with the shop!

I had a similar problem with my Laguna – can't remember the exact year. Symptoms sound familiar: engine cutting out, security light flashing. Have you checked battery voltage and the key fob battery? A weak signal can cause the immobilizer to act up. Think of it like a handshake that keeps failing; the car can't properly authenticate the key.
