Misfiring, yeah, sometimes feels like it. How can I confirm it's the encoder wheel and not just the sensor itself? I don’t have a code reader myself.

Without a code reader, it's tough to say for sure. If it is the encoder wheel, replacing just the sensor won't fix it. The sensor reads the wheel, and if the wheel is damaged, you'll keep getting issues. Honestly, sounds like you need to get it to a workshop to check the encoder wheel. Could save you money in the long run. Replacing the sensor without checking will be a waste.

Thanks a bunch for the advice. Took it to the shop, you were spot on! It was the encoder wheel. Ended up costing me 695€, sensor and labor, but at least it's fixed. Really appreciate the heads-up!

I had a similar issue with my Laguna (don't remember the year). Rough starts and stalling. Could be the camshaft sensor, but also could be the encoder wheel on the camshaft. Is your engine misfiring, and is the engine control system showing any error codes related to the camshaft position?
