Laguna Turbo Hissing Jerking

I'm at my wit's end! My 2003 Renault Laguna diesel's check engine light is on, and it's jerking like crazy when I accelerate. There's a weird whistling noise, like air escaping, and sometimes it even stalls when idling. Fuel consumption has gone up and it feels like it's lost power. A friend suggested it could be the boost pressure sensor. I checked the cable and plug, and they look okay, but I'm no expert. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The 2003 Renault Laguna diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, a whistling noise, stalling when idling, increased fuel consumption, and a loss of power. The problem is suspected to be related to the turbo system, possibly a boost pressure sensor issue or a bad connection in the turbo system. The suggested solution is to inspect hoses and connections around the turbo or take the car to a workshop for a professional diagnosis. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing the plug and wiring to the boost pressure sensor, restoring the car's performance.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Laguna. The hissing sound is a big clue. Definitely sounds like a turbo boost issue. Is it a LOUD hissing? Mine was, and it turned out to be a bad connection somewhere in the turbo system. I'm no mechanic, but have you checked all the hoses and connections around the turbo? That's where I'd start looking!

Loud hissing is spot on! Where exactly should I be looking for these hoses and connections you mentioned? I'm not super familiar with the turbo system layout, so any pointers would be a massive help.

Okay, if it's a loud hissing, seriously, be careful! Honestly, I ended up just taking mine to a workshop. I'm not comfortable messing with the turbo system myself. It could be a split hose or a loose clamp anywhere in the air intake system between the turbo and the engine. A garage will have a smoke tester to find the leak super quick. I know it's annoying, but it might save you a bigger headache.

Thanks so much for the advice! You were right about the workshop. Turns out it was the boost pressure sensor, or rather, a dodgy connection to it. They replaced the plug and wiring, and that fixed it. Cost me 95€ all in. Runs like a dream now!
