Land Rover Defender Brake Light Alert: Seeking Expert Help

Hey! Thanks for sharing your Discovery story, seems pretty similar to what I've been dealing with on my Defender! When my brake light popped on, I also ended up needing new pads and rotor resurfacing. My mechanic mentioned something about the hybrid system making the brake wear a bit different from regular cars. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for all that work? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair? Just wondering if I should expect any other surprises down the road. Cheers!

Hey there! Happy to update you! After getting the brake work done on my Discovery, everything's been running like a dream. The total came to 480.00 € for the whole job, brake pads, rotor resurfacing, and the general inspection. Honestly, it was worth every penny because the braking feels so much smoother now. It's been about a year since the repair, and I haven't had a single issue with the brakes. No warning lights, no funny noises, nothing! The mechanic did mention that with these hybrid systems, regular brake checks are super important because of how the regenerative braking works with the traditional brakes. One tip I picked up, I now pay more attention to any subtle changes in brake feel, even before any warning lights come on. These hybrid systems are pretty clever, but they definitely need proper maintenance to keep everything working together nicely. No surprises since the repair, so hopefully you'll have the same good luck with your Defender! Let me know if you need any other info!

Hey! Thanks so much for all that info! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. The total bill came to about 520.00 €, a bit more than what you paid, but I guess that's fair for a Defender. They found the same issues you mentioned, worn pads and rotors needing work. The funny thing is, when I got there, they showed me exactly what was wrong. The wear pattern was pretty uneven, just like you described. The mechanic I found was actually great, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the old parts. Way better experience than my last garage! The brakes feel amazing now, like a completely different car. I can definitely feel the difference with the hybrid system working properly too. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted quickly. I'll keep an eye on things like you suggested. Really appreciate all your help! Cheers!

Hey there! I had a similar situation with my 2019 Land Rover Discovery Hybrid last year at 65K km. The brake warning light came on, and when I took it to the garage, they found that the front brake pads were significantly worn and the rotors needed resurfacing. It turned out to be a serious issue because the wear sensors were already making contact, and the pads had worn unevenly. The mechanic showed me that one side was more worn than the other, suggesting a potential caliper issue. They had to replace both front brake pads, resurface the rotors, and inspect the calipers. For a Defender Hybrid, I'd strongly recommend getting it checked soon. These brake systems are quite sophisticated with the regenerative braking setup, so you'll want someone who's certified to work on Land Rover hybrids. My experience taught me not to wait on brake warning lights, they're there for a reason. Hope this helps with your decision!
