LandCruiser Boost Pressure Problem

My 2002 Toyota LandCruiser (gasoline engine) has 65173 km. The check engine light is on, engine power is reduced, engine response is poor, it stalls at idle, fuel consumption is up, there's a whistling noise, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. I think it's the turbocharger wastegate valve. Any ideas?

Wow, that sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms in my LandCruiser a while back. Check engine light, the weird noises... everything. It felt like I was driving a tractor, not a LandCruiser! Have you checked the boost pressure sensor or the intercooler for leaks or damage? When did you last service the turbocharger? What’s the engine code?

I haven't checked the boost pressure sensor or intercooler. The turbocharger hasn't been serviced recently. I don't know the engine code. Where should I start?

If you haven't checked the pressure sensor or intercooler, that's step one. But with all those symptoms pointing to a wastegate issue, and given that you haven't serviced the turbo in a while, you're probably looking at a more serious repair. I wrestled with mine for weeks, trying to DIY it, but in the end, I had to bite the bullet and take it to a reputable workshop. They confirmed it was the wastegate valve and replaced the whole turbo unit. Saved me a lot of headaches. I think you should do the same.

I consulted a mechanic. They confirmed a defective wastegate valve, so I had the turbocharger assembly replaced. The total cost was 860€. Thanks for the help!
