LandCruiser diesel starting fuel consumption issues

I'm having issues with my 2005 Toyota LandCruiser diesel, around 180k km. Fuel consumption has increased a lot, and it's hard to start, especially in the mornings. I suspect it's the throttle valve. Any similar experiences or advice?

Considering the symptoms and the LandCruiser's age, a defective accelerator pedal module probably influences the throttle valve. Have you checked the throttle position sensor (TPS) readings? Erroneous data from the TPS can cause these issues. Also, was there any recent work done that may have affected the throttle system?

Thanks! I haven't checked the TPS readings, but I cleaned the throttle body a few weeks ago, hoping it would improve things. Could I have disturbed something during the cleaning process that might now be affecting the TPS or the accelerator pedal module?

Cleaning the throttle body could have introduced issues. It's plausible that the cleaning process damaged the TPS or dislodged a connection. Given your expertise level and the potential for further complications, I recommend a professional diagnosis to pinpoint the exact cause. The repair cost was around 205€.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions and for the advice. I'll take it to a trusted workshop to get it checked out. Hopefully, it's just a sensor issue. I'll let you know what I find out.
