Lexus ES Door Lock Failure

My 2013 Lexus ES hybrid with 58557 km has an issue: the doors won't lock or unlock. I suspect a faulty door contact signal, maybe a dodgy cable or plug connection. Has anyone else wrestled with this? Before I start tearing the door apart, I'd love to hear similar experiences.

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Lexus ES hybrid is experiencing a door lock failure, where the doors won't lock or unlock. The suspected cause is a faulty door contact signal, possibly due to a dodgy cable or plug connection. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by identifying a broken wire in the door harness. The recommended solution is to have a professional mechanic diagnose and repair the issue to avoid further damage.

Sounds familiar. I had almost the exact same problem with my old BMW 3 Series a few years back. The central locking just gave up. Are you sure it's all doors affected? Did you check the fuses already?

Yes, it's affecting all the doors simultaneously, so I suspect a central issue rather than individual door sensors. Yes, I've checked the fuses – all seem to be in good nick. Did your BMW act up the same way, all doors at once? What was it in your case?

Yep, same symptoms – all doors went kaput at the same time. I initially thought it was the remote, but the key wasn't working either. Eventually, it turned out to be a broken wire in the door harness where it passes from the car body into the door. Constant opening and closing had fatigued the wire until it snapped. I'd suggest taking it to a trusted workshop. They'll have the right tools and experience to diagnose it properly before you accidentally cause more damage.

A broken wire in the door harness sounds like a very plausible culprit. I appreciate the advice, and I think you're right – I'll take it to my local Lexus mechanic. They diagnosed it as a defective cable connection. The repair cost was 95€.
