Lexus ES Overvoltage Errors

I'm having a weird issue with my 2012 Lexus ES hybrid (160,087 km). Lately, I've been getting electrical problems. The dashboard lights up with error messages, and it feels like systems are failing randomly. The car battery seems weak when I start it, and I've even seen 'overvoltage' errors in the diagnostics. Could a heavily discharged or defective battery cause these overvoltage issues and other electrical malfunctions?

I understand your concern. I also drive a Lexus ES and experienced something similar last year. I had many fault memory entries relating to overvoltage, and it was incredibly frustrating! I was starting to think that the alternator had given up, or maybe the voltage regulator had gone haywire, causing some sort of high voltage situation. Could you give me a bit more detail on the specific fault codes you're seeing? It might help narrow down the problem.

Thanks for the quick response! I don't have the exact fault codes on hand right now, but there are a lot of them, all pointing to overvoltage in different systems. Did your Lexus exhibit similar symptoms, like the weak battery and random system failures? Did you ever figure out what the root cause was?

Yes, indeed! The symptoms you described – the weak battery, the cascade of system failures, and the persistent overvoltage errors – all sound eerily familiar. In my case, after much head-scratching and several visits to my local garage, it turned out that the hybrid battery was the culprit. It was heavily discharged and failing, causing all sorts of electrical havoc. I would strongly recommend taking your Lexus to a trusted workshop or Lexus dealer for a thorough diagnosis. They'll be able to pinpoint the exact problem and provide the necessary repairs.

That's incredibly helpful! Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I'll definitely take it to a workshop to get it checked out. Turns out it was indeed the high voltage battery, cost me 290€ to replace. Hopefully, they can sort it out without too much trouble. I really appreciate the advice!
