Lexus ES Stiff Steering

Hi, I have a 2013 Lexus ES hybrid, and recently the steering has become a bit of a pain. It feels like I need to put in more effort to turn the wheel sometimes, almost like the power steering is cutting out. Also, I've noticed the steering wheel vibrates or shakes a bit at times. The car has 82596 km on it. Any ideas?

That sounds like it could be a faulty steering angle sensor. Has the wheel alignment been checked recently? A defective sensor can also interact with the traction control and electronic stability systems.

Wheel alignment hasn't been checked recently, no. If it is the steering angle sensor, would that mean a full sensor replacement or is there a way to fix it?

The symptoms do point towards the steering angle sensor. Sometimes the coding of the sensor is faulty. A workshop can check it. They might need to replace the sensor.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to a workshop, and you were right, it was a faulty coding of the steering angle sensor. They recoded it and did a wheel alignment for good measure. Cost 195€. Steering is smooth again!
