Lexus GX 2017: Dealing with Engine, ABS/DSC system, Lighting and Battery Issues

Hey fellow Lexus GX owners, I'm having some issues with my 2017 model, it's run about 133,317 KM up till now. Recently, my engine's been cutting off on its own, the ABS/DSC system seems shot, my lights are either too dim or flickering, and the battery feels weak on starting up. I had a rather disappointing trip to my mechanic the last time I visited. And now, my hypothesized culprit is a faulty generator. Just wondering if any of you have had similar symptoms with your ride? And how was your experience dealing with them at your trusted mechanic's place? Really appreciate any guidance on this!

Hey, sounds like you're having a rough time. I had a similar issue with my 2015 Lexus RX, so quite relatable. My engine was acting out, lights flickering and all that jazz, was driving me crazy. It turned out the generator was indeed the villain here, just as you suspected with your GX. I had taken my car to my usual mechanic guy, who, by the way, knows his nuts and bolts. He did a full inspection, ran some tests and in the end, it all pointed to the generator. He had to remove the old one, cleaned up the area where it was lodged, and fitted a brand new one. Quite a bit of work, I must say. The car ran smoothly afterwards, like it was fresh off the lot again. So seems like a generator issue isn't the end of the world, though it might feel like it at the time. Hope this helps! Suit up and give your GX another run. Cheers!

Hey, sounds like you really got your hands full with your Lexus there. I've got a 2016 GX and bumped into something similar a while back. Great to hear that your RX is back in action though. I'm actually interested in knowing how much that generator slash operation set you back - just a rough estimate would be perfect. And have you encountered any other problems since that replacement? Fingers crossed, none, I hope. Looking forward to your response. Keep cruising!

Hey there the generator issue was indeed something that hit my pocket a bit hard, but it was surely worth it. The entire fix, including the new generator and the labor to put it in, set me back around 960 Euro. Not a small bill by any means, but hey, it's always better to pay once for a long-lasting solution than end up with a problem that keeps bugging you, isn’t it? And to answer your other concern, I'm pleased to say that since the generator was replaced, my RX has been purring like a kitten. No other issues whatsoever! So, I'd suggest you bite the bullet if it turns out to be a generator fault with your GX. Despite the cost, it's a winner in the long run. Keep rollin'!

Hey, just an update here. After reading your experiences, I got the guts to head to my mechanic again. I told him about what you guys pointed out and asked him to check the generator. After a good long inspection round, the blame did indeed fall on the poor generator. It's gonna cost me a chip off my savings (around 950 Euro), but I'm going with your advice, hoping it'll be a good long-lasting solution to this mess. Not thrilled about the expense, but if it grants my GX a life extension, I'm all in. Fingers crossed there won't be any other nasty surprises waiting. Thanks a ton for all your help, guys! Keep driving and stay safe! Cheers!
