Lexus IS Charge Air Temperature Sensor Error

I've got a 2006 Lexus IS diesel with 150966 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light came on, and I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power. There's also a distinct whistling noise, almost a loud hissing, when I accelerate. I scanned the error memory and it points to a charge air temperature sensor error. I've checked the sensor itself, and the readings seem off. I suspect the cable or plug connection might be defective. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hey! I had something very similar happen with my IS. Reduced power and a hissing sound are dead giveaways. Did you check for any temperature fluctuation? Sometimes, even if the sensor is reading something, it's not accurate, causing all sorts of issues with the air intake. It could very well be a faulty connection, but definitely double-check those sensor readings again. Was it constantly high, low, or erratic?

Thanks for the quick reply! The temperature readings were fluctuating quite a bit, not stable at all. I initially suspected a vacuum leak, but couldn't find anything obvious. When you had the issue, was it also the charge air temperature sensor, or something else entirely? And did you replace the engine sensor yourself?

Yep, same sensor. Given the fluctuating readings and the hissing, I'd say you're on the right track. Honestly, after a quick look, I just took it to the workshop, because I did not want to mess up anything. They confirmed it was the cable and the sensor and replaced it, and all was fine afterwards. Considering you are already having a check engine light on, you should probably have it checked out to not further damage anything else.

Thanks a lot for confirming. I'll take your advice and get it checked out at the workshop. I was hoping it was something simple I could fix myself, but better safe than sorry. The workshop confirmed the cable was defective. They fixed the connection and replaced the sensor. The total cost was 95€. Everything is working perfectly again!
