Lexus IS tailgate fault
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Lexus IS diesel has a tailgate issue where it only partially opens, with a hall sensor fault indicated in the error memory. The problem is suspected to be due to a faulty cable or plug connection, particularly in the wiring harness near the hinge where wires can fatigue and snap. The suggested solution is to inspect and possibly repair the wiring harness, which was confirmed as the issue and resolved at a local workshop for 95€.

Wiring harness, huh? Where exactly should I be looking? You mean where the wires go from the car body to the tailgate itself? And yeah, the tailgate motor makes a noise, like it wants to work, but it just... doesn't quite get there.

Yep, that's the spot! If the motor's trying, the sensor's probably sending dodgy readings or none at all. Sadly, I ended up going to the shop, as I am useless with electrics. They sorted it quickly though!

Thanks for the heads-up! I ended up taking it to a local workshop. Turns out you were spot on, dodgy connection which cost 95€ all in. Sorted now!

Whoa, sounds familiar! Had similar gremlins with my old Renault Scenic. Power tailgate, right? Check the wiring harness where it bends near the hinge. Those wires can fatigue and snap over time. Is the tailgate motor audibly working?
