Lexus LX exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Lexus LX owner experienced issues with a warning light and smoke during acceleration, which diagnostics indicated were due to a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. Another owner with similar symptoms advised consulting a mechanic to avoid unnecessary repairs. Following this advice, the sensor was confirmed as the problem and replaced, resolving the issue and restoring the vehicle's performance.

Could you elaborate on your experience? Specifically, were the symptoms identical (smoke upon acceleration, warning light), and was the exhaust back pressure sensor indeed the root cause? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, same exact symptoms. I replaced a bunch of stuff that I probably didn't need to replace, so I'd advise to go to the shop. It will save you time and money.

Following your advice, I consulted with a trusted mechanic who confirmed the diagnosis: a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. The repair, including parts and labor, amounted to 245€. The issue has been resolved, and my Lexus LX is now performing optimally once again. I appreciate you sharing your experience!

LX owner here. Smoke and a warning light? Sounds familiar. Was the back pressure sensor the actual culprit for you or did you have other issues?
