Lexus LX Intake Manifold Flap Control Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Lexus LX diesel with 185,000 km is experiencing power loss, rough running, jerking during acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and a loud hissing sound. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the intake manifold flap control, possibly due to a faulty unit or an air intake leak. The solution involves diagnosing the problem, checking for air leaks, and potentially replacing the intake manifold flap control, which resolved the issue and restored the vehicle's performance.

Good shout about the MAF sensor, hadn't thought of that. The engine light is on, by the way. If it is the intake manifold flap control, is that a big job to fix? I'm guessing it's not just a simple clean?

With the engine light on, that points even more to a sensor or control issue. And yeah, if it's the intake manifold flap control itself that's defective, cleaning probably won't cut it. It usually means replacing the whole unit, which can be a bit involved. Honestly, with those symptoms and the engine light, I'd say it's worth getting it checked out by a decent workshop. They can properly diagnose it and give you a quote.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out it was the intake manifold flap control, just like I suspected. I got it replaced for 465€ and she's running like a dream again. Appreciate the help!

Sounds frustrating! Have you noticed if the engine light is on? A faulty intake manifold flap control can definitely cause those symptoms – reduced power, rough running, even the hissing could be related to an air leak. But have you checked for any obvious air intake leaks or maybe even tried cleaning the MAF sensor? Could be worth a shot before diving into anything more complex.
