Lexus NX Camshaft Sensor Failure

My 2015 Lexus NX hybrid is acting up with only 44579 km. It's starting poorly, stalls at idle sometimes, and the check engine light is on. The codes say it's a camshaft sensor. Could it be a defective encoder wheel on the camshafts themselves? Anyone else encountered this? What's the solution?

I also own a Lexus NX, and I experienced similar symptoms not long ago: rough starts, occasional stalling. My mechanic mentioned the camshaft position being off, and the engine control unit getting confused. Did you perform any sensor testing yourself, or are you relying solely on the error codes? Could there be something interfering with the signal?

You mention the camshaft position being off. That's precisely what I suspect. I haven't gone into sensor testing yet, mainly relying on the codes. What did your mechanic do to pinpoint the problem? Was it just the sensor, or something deeper within the engine?

After some diagnostics, the workshop found that the camshaft sensor was indeed defective. They said it's not uncommon, especially with hybrid engines due to the frequent start-stop cycles. Given your symptoms and the error codes, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis. Why risk further damage?

Thanks for the insight. I dropped it off at my local mechanic, and you were spot on. Turns out the camshaft sensor was the culprit. Encoder wheel on camshafts defective as suspected. Repair cost me 695€. Hopefully, this resolves the engine misfire and stalling issues!
