Lexus RC check engine light and exhaust fumes

I had something similar with my RC. Check for exhaust leaks first. A small crack can mess with the readings from the sensors and trigger the catalyst aging code. Do you notice any drop in fuel efficiency?

Thanks! A drop in fuel efficiency, huh? I hadn't really paid attention, but now that you mention it, I think it's a little worse than usual. Where exactly should I be looking for these exhaust leaks? I'm not super mechanically inclined.

Honestly, unless you're comfortable getting under the car and know what you're looking for, I'd just take it to a workshop. It's probably a small crack somewhere in the exhaust system before or near the catalytic converter. It's better to get it sorted before it causes more damage. I did exactly that, and it solved my problem.

Alright, I hear you. I'll take it to the shop. Thanks for the tip! Turns out it WAS a small leak in the exhaust system. Cost me 265€ to fix, but at least the light is gone and the exhaust smell is gone as well!
