Interesting you mention the fan. I did notice it kicking in a lot more than usual. Are you saying the thermostat housing failure was causing the overheating, even with the fan running?

Exactly. The thermostat wasn't opening and closing properly due to housing failure, messing with the coolant system and temp regulation. I would take it to the workshop

Cheers, I appreciate the insight! Sounds like my hunch was right - workshop confirmed a defective map thermostat with 350€ repair bill. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds familiar. Had something similar happen with my old Peugeot 308. Was the thermostat housing. Does your cooling fan seem to be running constantly, even when the engine is cold?
