Thanks for the quick response! The diagnostic was pretty specific about the control unit being affected. It's throwing a code that suggests internal malfunction. I'm just trying to gauge how common this is before I commit to replacing the entire unit. Was your BMW diagnostic as clear as mine?

Ah, okay, a specific control unit code changes things. My BMW's diagnostic was more vague, pointing to a sensor issue, which is why I asked. If your diagnostic directly names the control unit, and you're seeing those ABS symptoms, it does sound like that's the culprit. Honestly, with potentially safety-critical systems like ABS, I wouldn't mess around too much. I'd bite the bullet and take it to a reputable workshop before things get worse. Good luck!

Appreciate the advice! Based on your experience and the diagnostic results, I decided to take it to the workshop. Turns out the control unit was indeed defective, as suspected. Repair cost me around 1000€. Thanks again for the help!

That ABS issue sounds familiar. I had a similar experience with my old BMW 3 Series. ABS light, traction control going nuts – the whole shebang. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty ABS sensor. Did the diagnostic specifically mention the control unit, or could it possibly be related to one of the wheel speed sensors feeding incorrect data to the unit?
