Thanks for the input. I don't have a diagnostic tool myself. Is there a specific range I should be looking for in the sensor readings, or is it more of a yes/no, working/not working situation? Any tips on locating the sensor?

I do not know the precise range, but incorrect readings indicate a malfunction. Considering your lack of experience with diagnostic tools, I recommend taking your vehicle to a qualified workshop for inspection. They can accurately diagnose the problem and ensure proper repair.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on; it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Repair cost me 245€. All sorted now.

I also own a Lexus RX, and those symptoms might suggest a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. Have you considered checking the sensor's readings? Perhaps a diagnostic tool would give you a definitive answer.
