Lexus RX Hybrid Generator Failure

I'm having trouble with my 2006 Lexus RX hybrid (57972 kilometers). Engine power is reduced, a warning light is on, it's hard to start, and the lights are weak and flickering. There's also an error stored. I suspect the generator. Could this be causing all these problems?

Sounds like an alternator issue. I had similar problems with my old BMW 3 series. Car wouldn't start reliably, lights were dimming. Have you checked the serpentine belt? If it's worn or loose, it could affect the generator's performance.

Thanks, but could a worn belt really cause all those symptoms at once? Did you have the same problems with your BMW, specifically the reduced engine power along with the starting and lighting issues?

Yep, pretty much the same symptoms. The reduced power is probably the car going into a kind of 'safe mode' to conserve energy when the charging system isn't working right. I'd say get the generator checked out properly. Sounds like it's on its way out. Don't wait until the car won't start at all!
