Thanks, but could a worn belt really cause all those symptoms at once? Did you have the same problems with your BMW, specifically the reduced engine power along with the starting and lighting issues?

Yep, pretty much the same symptoms. The reduced power is probably the car going into a kind of 'safe mode' to conserve energy when the charging system isn't working right. I'd say get the generator checked out properly. Sounds like it's on its way out. Don't wait until the car won't start at all!

Thanks for confirming my symptoms match your experience. I had it checked and the diagnosis confirmed a defective generator. Replacement cost 960€. Thanks for helping me identify the problem.

Sounds like an alternator issue. I had similar problems with my old BMW 3 series. Car wouldn't start reliably, lights were dimming. Have you checked the serpentine belt? If it's worn or loose, it could affect the generator's performance.
