Linea Brake Light Switch Issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2014 Fiat Linea diesel. I've got 137760 km on the clock, and recently the brake lights started acting up. They sometimes don't come on when I hit the brakes! Also, I'm getting an error message on the infotainment system, and the error memory stores some kind of generic failure. I thought maybe it was a fuse, but they all look fine. Could this be the brake light switch playing tricks on me? Anyone else seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Fiat Linea diesel with 137,760 km is experiencing intermittent brake light issues and a generic 'Brake system failure' error message. The problem is suspected to be related to the brake light switch, possibly due to a loose connector. After checking and securing the connector, the error was resolved, indicating the issue was likely caused by an accidental disconnection.

I had a similar problem with my Linea. Those symptoms sound familiar. The brake light switch is located near the brake pedal, and it's responsible for activating the brake lights when you press the pedal. When you say error memory, what does the error exactly states? Did you check the connector of the switch?

Thanks for the quick response! The error message just says something generic like 'Brake system failure.' As for the connector, I'll check that out tomorrow. Is it easy to access, or am I going to need tiny hands and a contortionist's body?

Yeah, 'Brake system failure' is the error I had as well. The connector should be fairly easy to reach, but space is always tight in that area. If the connector looks ok and the error persists, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and replace the switch if needed. Don't wanna mess with the brakes, safety first!

You were spot on! I jiggled the connector to the switch, and then the error disappeared. After that I took it to the workshop, they pushed it firmly and all errors were gone! Apparently, I must have accidentally kicked it while getting into the car. So, user error after all, and a free fix! Thanks a lot for your help!
