Linea inlet VANOS fault
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Fiat Linea with a gasoline engine and 92,254 km is experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostics indicate a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics, likely due to a defective camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply issue. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the solenoid valve, and the current plan is to replace the faulty inlet camshaft solenoid valve, with an estimated repair cost of 250€.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting! Yes, it does have a timing chain. Oil sludge could be a factor; I've been pretty good with oil changes, but you never know. Can you remember what the fix was for your Astra? Was it just a solenoid replacement, or something more involved?

For my Astra, it ended up being the solenoid valve, luckily. However, the mechanic mentioned that if I had ignored it for much longer, the timing chain could have been affected which would have meant a much bigger bill. Best get it checked by someone who knows their VANOS from their elbow!

Thanks for the insight! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I took it to a workshop today and they confirmed it's a faulty inlet camshaft solenoid valve. Repair cost is estimated at 250€. Hopefully, that will sort it out!

Hey, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, but it was related to the exhaust VANOS. Symptoms were pretty much the same – check engine light and terrible MPG. I recall some mention of possible oil sludge causing problems. Does your engine have a timing chain? I remember that being a factor in my case.
