Linea NOx catalyst aging and exhaust leak
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Fiat Linea with a gasoline engine exhibited a check engine light and logged an error related to NOx storage catalyst aging, alongside an exhaust leak. The issues were potentially connected, as an exhaust leak near the catalytic converter could disrupt exhaust flow and trigger emissions-related errors. A mechanic identified a small crack in the exhaust before the catalytic converter, which was repaired, resolving the problem and clearing the error.

Good point. I haven't pinpointed the exact location of the leak yet, but if it is near the catalytic converter, would that be enough to trigger the NOx catalyst aging error? Is there something I can check myself?

Yeah, definitely. A leak messing with the exhaust flow can cause all sorts of emissions-related errors. Unless you're comfortable working on exhaust systems, I'd get it to a workshop. They'll smoke test it and tell you for sure.

Makes sense. Thanks for the insight! Took it to a local mechanic; the exhaust had a small crack right before the cat. Welding and some sealant fixed it for 265€. Light's gone and everything's running smoothly.

Sounds like a potential exhaust system issue. Is the leak near the catalytic converter? Could be a crack or a loose connection affecting the catalyst's performance.
