Malibu Radio Reception Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2011 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid is experiencing radio reception issues, with an error related to the antenna signal. A defective antenna or antenna booster is suspected as the cause, especially since the problem worsens in urban areas. It is suggested to check the antenna connection for corrosion and consider professional repair due to the complexity of accessing the antenna booster and potential for trim damage. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be the antenna, and it was repaired by a mechanic.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the antenna base directly, but I did inspect the visible wiring and didn't notice anything obvious. The reception seems to be worse in urban areas with a lot of buildings. If it is the antenna booster, is that something I can replace myself, or does it require specialized tools or programming?

Urban interference definitely points towards the antenna system. While a DIY replacement is possible, accessing the booster often requires removing interior trim. Given the potential for damaging trim clips and the need for proper sealing to prevent water ingress, I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop. Plus, they can properly diagnose it to rule out other potential causes, like a faulty head unit. You could save time and money in the long run.

Understood. I appreciate the advice. I'll schedule an appointment with a trusted mechanic for a proper diagnosis and repair. It turned out to be the antenna, as you suspected. The total repair cost was 255€, including parts and labor. Thanks again for your help!

Sounds like it, especially with the error code. The Malibu's antenna booster is a common failure point. Have you checked the antenna connection at the base? Sometimes they corrode, causing a weak signal. Also, any recent windshield work? They can sometimes mess with the antenna wiring embedded in the glass. Is it consistently bad reception, or just in certain areas?
