Hi, I've got a 2006 Fiat Marea with a gasoline engine. The passenger electric seat has developed a fault. The error memory has a stored error, and the seat adjustment is completely non-functional. Could a heavily discharged or defective battery really be the culprit?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Marea. Was your battery recently flat or replaced? It can throw the seat electrics completely out of whack.

Highly likely. The Marea's electrics are a bit sensitive. If jump-starting it didn't solve it, I'd suggest a proper diagnostic check at a workshop. Seems like you need to reset or recalibrate the seat control module. It cost me around 290€.
