Marea Exhaust Flap Defect
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Fiat Marea owner reported an error and unusually loud exhaust noise, particularly after a cold start, suspecting a defect in the exhaust flaps. Another person confirmed similar symptoms, suggesting that the exhaust flap actuator might be stuck or broken, a common issue with this model. The recommendation was to have it professionally diagnosed and repaired due to the difficulty of accessing the actuator. The problem was confirmed and resolved with a replacement, restoring normal operation.

Thanks for the tip. Was the actuator replacement straightforward, or did you run into any snags?

I recommend a workshop visit. The actuator is difficult to reach, and access is tight. It sounds very much like the same problem. Getting it diagnosed professionally is worth the money and will save you time.

Thanks for the advice. I had it checked and you were spot on; the exhaust flap was indeed defective. Replaced it for 190€. Runs smooth again!

I had similar symptoms on my Marea. Loud exhaust, especially on startup. Those exhaust flaps are a common weak point. Check the flap actuator; it might be stuck or broken.
