Marea Immobilizer Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Fiat Marea diesel is experiencing an issue where it starts briefly and then dies, with an immobilizer error identified by a mechanic. The problem may be due to incorrect key programming or faulty wiring around the ignition control. A suggested solution is to inspect the wiring for damage or loose connections, but ultimately, the issue was resolved by addressing the key programming, costing 45€.

Thanks, a faulty connection is interesting. Could you be more specific about 'the wiring around the ignition control'? Where should I look and what am I looking for?

I'm not familiar with the Marea's layout, but on the Astra, a main wiring harness connected to the ignition switch. The mechanic showed me corroded and loose wires, preventing a consistent signal to the immobilizer. Inspect those wires for damage, corrosion, or loose connections. I'm not a car expert, a workshop is probably better.

I appreciate the explanation. It's probably beyond me, so a workshop visit is likely. Turns out it was a key programming issue, cost me 45€. Thanks for the help!

I had a similar problem with my 2012 Opel Astra diesel. The engine would briefly start then cut out, and there was an immobilizer error. It was a faulty connection disrupting the key signal. Have you checked the wiring around the ignition control?
