Marea Knocking Combustion
Summary of the thread
The 2000 Fiat Marea experienced knocking combustion, reduced power, jerking on acceleration, smoke, and an error code. The initial concern was whether combustion chamber deposits were causing the issue. Suggestions included checking the fuel octane and the knock sensor. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by cleaning the combustion chamber deposits and recalibrating, confirming the deposits as the cause.

I use the recommended octane. How can I check the knock sensor without special equipment?

Without equipment, it's hard to diagnose precisely. Given the symptoms, I'd suggest a trusted workshop. Let me know what happens. I hope it's not too expensive.

It was combustion chamber deposits, needing cleaning and recalibration. Cost me 425€. Thanks for the help!

I had similar symptoms on my Marea. Have you checked fuel octane? Is the knock sensor working? Rule out detonation before assuming it's just combustion chamber deposits.
