Marea Water Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Fiat Marea diesel is experiencing a water sensor malfunction, causing the check engine light to illuminate and the engine to run rough, particularly during cold starts. The issue may stem from a faulty sensor, cable, or plug. Suggestions include testing the sensor with a multimeter to check for bad data being sent to the ECU and inspecting the wiring for breaks or corrosion. Consulting a technician is advised due to the potential impact on the ECU.

Thanks! Could you explain the multimeter testing procedure? What resistance values should I expect, and what should I watch out for? Also, did the error code specifically mention the water sensor, or was it a more general code?

I didn't get into the multimeter specifics. It was similar to your issue, and I brought it to a local workshop since I didn't want to mess with the ECU. They diagnosed it quickly after checking the sensor signal.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Given the potential impact on the ECU, I'll consult a technician. I'll post the solution for others. The estimated repair cost is 95€.

I had similar symptoms in my Marea. Before replacing parts, test the sensor with a multimeter. It could be sending bad data to the ECU. Also, check the wiring for breaks or corrosion. Diesel engines are sensitive to electrical issues.
