Master oil pressure warning

My 2011 Renault Master diesel, with only 45958 km, is throwing up an oil pressure warning. The oil pressure warning lamp lights up and I'm getting nasty, loud mechanical noises from the engine. I'm thinking it's the oil pump, but has anyone else had this?

I had a similar issue with my Master. First, when was the last time you did an oil change? Also, have you checked the oil pressure sensor or perhaps connected an oil pressure gauge to get a reading? Low oil pressure can stem from a number of things before you jump to oil pump failure.

The oil change was about 4000 km ago. I haven't checked the sensor or connected a gauge. When you had the issue, what ended up being the problem?

In my case, low oil pressure and similar noises pointed directly to the oil pump. Although it's prudent to check the oil pressure sensor, given the severity of the symptoms you're describing, I would advise taking it to a trusted workshop. Continuing to run the engine with suspected oil pump failure could lead to catastrophic damage.
