Matrix AC failure
Summary of the thread
The 2010 Toyota Matrix's AC system has stopped cooling and won't switch on. The fuses have been checked and are fine, suggesting the issue might be elsewhere. Possible causes include a faulty pressure switch or low refrigerant levels, which can prevent the compressor from engaging. It is recommended to take the car to a workshop for a thorough AC diagnostic to check for refrigerant leaks and other potential defects.

Thanks! I haven't checked the refrigerant level, but I didn't hear any AC noise either. Where is the pressure switch located, and how do I check the refrigerant?

The pressure switch location varies, but it's usually somewhere on the high-pressure AC line. As for the refrigerant, without proper tools, you can't accurately check it yourself. There are DIY kits, but they aren't precise. Given your symptoms and my experience, it might be more than just low refrigerant. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for AC diagnostics. Could be a defect in individual valves in the air conditioning system. They'll check for refrigerant leaks and diagnose any other issues.

Appreciate the advice! Sounds like a trip to the shop is in order. I was quoted around 1000€ for repair. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar AC issue with my old Saab 9-3. The AC clutch wouldn't engage, and it turned out to be a faulty pressure switch. Have you checked the refrigerant level? A low refrigerant level can prevent the compressor from kicking in. Also, listen for any unusual AC noise when you try to turn it on.
