Matrix AC Problem
Summary of the thread
The 2003 Hyundai Matrix diesel's air conditioning stopped working, with error codes indicating an issue with the refrigerant compressor. The air conditioning wouldn't switch on, and a warning light was present. Initially suspected to be a defective air conditioning control unit, the problem was confirmed and resolved by replacing the control unit, restoring the AC functionality.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked specifically for refrigerant leaks, but I assumed the compressor not engaging was preventing any potential leaks. Was that the ultimate cause of your problem?

Yeah, turned out the compressor was shot. I'd take it to a decent workshop, they'll be able to confirm it for you. Could be the control unit like you suspect, but get the compressor checked out first. It's a common failure on these.

Appreciate the advice! Looks like a trip to the shop is in order. Turns out it was indeed the AC control unit. They replaced it and the AC is working again. Total cost: 980€.

Dude, I had almost the exact same thing happen in my Matrix! Same symptoms: no AC, error codes, the whole shebang. Did you check for refrigerant leaks?
