Matrix Brake Light Failure

My 2014 Toyota Matrix with a gasoline engine is acting up. Mileage is at 74374 km. The brake lights aren't working. I'm getting a 'Brake Light Failure' message and there's an error stored. I'm thinking it's the brake light switch, but could it be user error? Anyone else seen this?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my old 2012 BMW 3 Series. Same symptoms – error message, faulty brake lights.

A BMW, eh? The error code points to the brake switch. But could it be a fuse or something else?

In my case with the BMW, it was the switch. Considering the error code, I'd lean towards that. Might be worth a quick check. If it's not the switch, a trip to the workshop is inevitable.

Took your advice and swapped out the brake light switch, and bingo! Problem solved. Turns out I had inadvertently disconnected it. What a relief – zero cost! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
