Matrix camshaft sensor issue

My 2012 Toyota Matrix with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. It's got about 74k km on it. Lately, it's been starting rough, sometimes stalls at idle, and the check engine light is on. I'm thinking it might be the camshaft sensor – read somewhere the encoder wheel on the camshafts can get wonky. Anyone else run into this?

Check engine light, huh? Could be a sensor issue. Have you tried any basic troubleshooting, like checking the sensor connections?

Yeah, I checked the connections, they seem solid. How would I go about testing the sensor itself?

Testing sensors can be tricky without the right tools. A defective camshaft sensor is a plausible reason for stalling and the check engine light. If you're unsure, maybe a workshop can run a diagnostic check.

You were right, took it to the shop, and it was indeed the camshaft sensor! They replaced it, and the final bill was 695€. Runs like a champ now. Thanks for the input!
