Matrix engine rough running shutoff

What's up with my 2003 Toyota Matrix, gasoline engine, deciding it doesn't wanna live anymore? I'm at 135530 km. One minute it's purring, next it's coughing like it's got a lung infection. Sometimes it won't even start, other times it just dies mid-drive, and when it does run, it's rough. Checked the usual suspects - figured it might be ignition coil. Any chance it's just a fuse, if it even has one for the ignition?

A 2003 Toyota Matrix with 135,530 km is experiencing rough running, unexpected shutoffs, and starting issues. The problem is suspected to be related to the ignition system, possibly an ignition coil or a fuse. However, flickering dashboard lights and similar symptoms in another Matrix suggest the ignition switch as the primary cause. Replacing the faulty ignition switch resolved the issue.

I drive a Matrix as well. Sounds familiar. Are your dashboard lights acting weird when this happens? Similar starting issue where it would crank but no ignition, or die shortly after key turn.

Weird lights, eh? Now that you mention it, yeah, they flicker sometimes. Did you ever get rough engine running with this?

Confirmed rough running and shutoffs. Eventually it left me stranded. It seems like the ignition switch is the primary cause of the issue. I highly recommend getting it checked at a workshop!

Appreciate the insight! Turns out it was exactly that. Ignition switch was fried. Cost me 52€ to get it sorted. Thanks again!
