Matrix Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota Matrix with low mileage is experiencing engine stalling and a check engine light, particularly when idling. The issue is suspected to be related to the EVAP system, which controls fuel tank ventilation and can affect the air/fuel mixture if there's a leak or blockage. The problem was identified as a defective activated charcoal filter within the EVAP system, and replacing it resolved the stalling issue.

EVAP system, huh? Never heard of it. Now that you mention it, my mileage does seem a bit lower. Where should I start looking, and how does that system failure relate to the stalling?

The EVAP system can cause stalling if there's a leak or blockage, disrupting the air/fuel mixture. The most common culprit is a defective activated charcoal filter in the system. Honestly, diagnosing it properly requires smoke testing. I ended up just taking mine to a workshop.

Thanks for the info! It really does sound like the same thing. I took it to the mechanic, and it was indeed the activated charcoal filter. Repair cost 275€. I appreciate the help!

I had a similar problem with my Matrix. Same symptoms, check engine light and occasional stalling. Sounds like a potential issue with the EVAP system, which is part of the fuel tank ventilation and controls air flow to reduce emissions. Have you noticed any changes in your fuel efficiency?
