Matrix Gearbox Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Hyundai Matrix diesel is experiencing gearbox issues, including non-functional paddle shifters, gear slipping, grinding noises, slow response, and emergency mode activation. The problem is linked to a fault stored in the error memory and an illuminated engine light. The likely cause is a defective transmission control unit (TCU), which is a known issue for this model. The recommended solution is to have the TCU checked and repaired at a workshop.

Yeah, the engine light is on. Did you ever figure out what it was?

Definitely! Turned out to be the transmission control unit. Apparently, they're prone to failing. Honestly, just get it checked at a workshop. It'll save you a lot of headaches.

Thanks for the tip! Took it to the shop and you were spot on, TCU is defective. Repair will be around 1000€. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Matrix. Mine did all sorts of crazy things with the automatic transmission. Slipping gears, weird noises... the whole shebang. Any lights on the dash?
