Matrix headlight range control faulty
Summary of the thread
The issue with the 2006 Toyota Matrix involves a faulty headlight range control, indicated by an error message and a warning light. The problem manifests as the low beams being improperly adjusted, either too low or too high. A potential cause identified is a defective servomotor within the headlight assembly, which controls the beam direction. The recommended solution is professional repair, as confirmed by a workshop diagnosis.

Servomotors? I don't know those. Can you give me more details? I want to see if I can fix it before going to a workshop.

Yeah, the servomotors. They're small motors inside the headlight assembly that adjust the beam. If one's gone bad, it can cause aiming problems. Honestly, on the Saab, it was a pain to get to. Just get it checked by a professional. It will save you time.

I see. Thanks. It looks like the servomotor in the headlight is defective. The workshop confirmed it and quoted a repair cost of 1040€. It's a lot, but at least the problem is clear.

I had almost the same thing with my old Saab 9-3. Warning light, weird beam adjustment... it was driving me nuts! Did you check the servomotors? I think they control the beam direction.
