Matrix Keyless Access Dead

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2003 Hyundai Matrix (gasoline engine) at 196597 km. The key battery low warning keeps popping up, and now my keyless access is completely dead. An error is even stored in the error memory. Unlocking and locking the car is becoming a real hassle. I suspect the battery in the key, but I'm surprised it happened so suddenly. Has anyone else dealt with this?

I had a similar problem with my old BMW 3 Series. The 'key battery low' warning turned out to be exactly that - a dead battery in the electronic key. Keyless entry became intermittent and eventually stopped working altogether. Did you try replacing the battery yet?

I haven't replaced it yet. I wanted to check if there were other possible causes before swapping it out. Is it just a standard battery, or something specific to the key fob?

In my case (BMW), it was a standard CR2032 button cell battery. You can usually find them at any electronics store or even a pharmacy. That said, a visit to a workshop is advisable if replacing the battery doesn't solve the issue.

Thanks for the advice! I replaced the battery in the key fob, and that seems to have fixed the problem. Total cost: 37€ for the battery. The keyless entry works perfectly now.
