Matrix NOx Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
The owner of a 2002 Toyota Matrix experienced a check engine light, with diagnostics indicating an error with the NOx sensor. A slight exhaust leak was also noted, raising concerns about a potential issue with the sensor's cable or plug. A similar case suggested that the NOx sensor, located after the catalytic converter, might be faulty and require replacement. The recommended solution is to have a workshop inspect and possibly replace the sensor.

Thanks. I haven't really looked at the sensor yet. Where exactly is the NOx sensor located in the exhaust system? I'd like to check for corrosion or obvious damage.

It's usually located after the catalytic converter. I couldn't see any damage to mine, so I went to a workshop. They confirmed the sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. It might be hard to replace yourself without the right tools. A workshop should be able to do it quickly. It is part of the exhaust system.

Thanks a lot! I'll take it to a workshop to have them check the NOx sensor and its connections. I already got a cost estimate of around 95€ for a new NOx sensor and the repair. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar issue with my Toyota Matrix (not sure of the year). The NOx sensor is part of the exhaust system and reduces pollution. It's an emission sensor, and if it fails, the car detects that the exhaust values are out of range, turns the check engine light on and stores the error. Have you checked the sensor itself for any visible damage?
