Matrix Oxygen Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota Matrix experienced a check engine light and reduced fuel efficiency, with a diagnostic tool indicating an oxygen sensor error. The sensor's cable and plug appeared worn, suggesting a possible cause. Cleaning the contacts was suggested as a potential solution, but ultimately, replacing the aging sensor resolved the issue, restoring normal function and fuel consumption.

Thanks. I haven't cleaned the contacts yet. How do I properly clean the plug? Any specific cleaning solution or tool I should use?

Cleaning the contacts didn't fully solve it for me. I took it to a shop, and they said the sensor was aging. Cost about 95€, parts and labor. Might want to get it checked out.

Took the car to a shop like you suggested. They confirmed it was the oxygen sensor. Replaced it, and the check engine light is off, and fuel consumption is back to normal. Total cost was 95€, like you said. Thanks!

Sounds like the O2 sensor. Before you replace it, have you tried cleaning the contacts on the plug? Sometimes it's just corrosion.
