Matrix preheating lamp issue

I'm having a nightmare with my 2008 Hyundai Matrix diesel. The preheating lamp simply refuses to switch off, and the check engine light is now constantly on! I've also noticed a lot of smoke when I accelerate. I did a basic scan and suspect it's a defective glow control unit. I checked the visible wiring, but I am not sure where to look next! Any ideas?

Unplug them and check for corrosion or damage. Give them a clean with electrical contact cleaner if you have some. If that doesn't fix it, it might be time to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose the unit properly.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I did as you suggested, cleaned the plug, and the problem persisted. I took it to a local workshop, they confirmed a defective plug, and the repair plus a new plug cost me 95€. It is now working again!
