Matrix preheating lamp issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Hyundai Matrix diesel had issues with the preheating lamp not switching off and the check engine light staying on, accompanied by excessive smoke during acceleration. The initial suspicion was a defective glow control unit. After checking and cleaning the cable and plug connections, the problem persisted. A workshop confirmed a defective plug, which was replaced, resolving the issue.

Thanks! When you say "checked", what exactly do you mean? Is there a specific way to test the cables or plugs? I'm not very experienced with this stuff.

Unplug them and check for corrosion or damage. Give them a clean with electrical contact cleaner if you have some. If that doesn't fix it, it might be time to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose the unit properly.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I did as you suggested, cleaned the plug, and the problem persisted. I took it to a local workshop, they confirmed a defective plug, and the repair plus a new plug cost me 95€. It is now working again!

Sounds like a plausible cause, especially with those symptoms. Have you checked the cable and plug connections to the glow control unit? That's a common issue.
