Matrix Tire Pressure Sensor Malfunction

Hey, I'm having a problem with my 2002 Toyota Matrix, gasoline engine. The tire pressure sensor seems to be acting up. The system says the tire pressure is too low, and I'm getting an error message on the speedometer. Plus, there's an error code stored. I'm thinking the sensor battery might be dying, since the car has 98270 km on it. Anyone else run into this?

That sounds annoying! I had something similar on my old car. Before you replace the sensors, did you check the tire pressure with a manual gauge? Seems obvious, but sometimes it's overlooked. And are all four tires showing low pressure, or just one?

Thanks! I did check the pressure manually, and it's fine. It's just one tire triggering the error. Could a bad sensor cause that, even if the pressure is correct?

Okay, if the manual gauge is good and it's just one tire, it's probably a sensor. A weak battery is likely, given the car's age. It could be wiring, but that's less likely. You could try resetting the TPMS, but with a 22-year-old sensor, it's probably failing. I'd take it to a shop; they can diagnose it and replace the sensor. It'll probably be around 280€ to fix.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts and the cost estimate! I appreciate the help. I'll take it to a shop for diagnosis and sensor replacement.
