Maverick Intake Manifold Leak

My 2007 Ford Maverick diesel with 21118 km is jerking during acceleration. The check engine light is on, engine power is reduced, and it sometimes stalls. It runs rough and smells strongly of exhaust. I suspect a defective intake manifold. Could a vacuum leak or faulty manifold sensor be the cause, maybe from scorching leading to a gasket leak and affecting manifold pressure?

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my Maverick. Jerking and rough idling were the first signs for me. Have you checked the intake manifold for visible cracks or scorching? The PCM uses the MAP sensor to determine the engine's air intake, so a leak will definitely mess with that. Any hissing sounds around the manifold?

I appreciate the insight. I haven't done a detailed visual inspection for cracks, but scorching seems probable given the exhaust odor. I'll check for hissing sounds too. Did you also get error messages related to the manifold or fuel trim?

Yes, I got codes pointing to vacuum leaks and fuel trim issues - lean condition. The LTFT values were way off. Honestly, after checking connections and sensors, I took it to the workshop. Turned out the intake manifold was leaking pretty bad – common issue, apparently.

Understood. Thank you for confirming the likely cause. I will proceed with a workshop visit for diagnosis and repair, expecting a replacement. The repair ultimately cost 1180€ due to the intake manifold leaking.
